1000 Friends of Wisconsin was awarded a grant from Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS) in partnership with two Green Tier Legacy Communities (GTLC) to improve community health by promoting pedestrian and bicycle access for children and families, specifically by addressing active transportation gaps to schools and parks.
Over the course of six months, the Community Programs Director worked with planners from Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids to identify areas of concern, plan and carry out walk/roll audits with community participants, collect data, and develop detailed recommendations for infrastructure improvements. The final report for each city includes a narrative of the process accompanied by photos and videos, a set of observations and recommendations for the focus areas, and maps showing bike/ped infrastructure and demographic and environmental data.
